Introduction
We are looking for a VoIP Network Engineer to join the team.
Job description
- Troubleshoot and resolve customer tickets related to VoIP, internet access, firewalls, and virtual branch exchange (VBX), ensuring resolution within 24 hours.
- Configure and deploy customer premises equipment (CPE) including routers, firewalls, and VoIP gateways.
- Design and implement voice and data solutions (including MPLS and tunnelling protocols like L2TP, GRE, IPSEC, and VPN).
- Provide remote technical support to field service engineers.
- Use network monitoring tools (MRTG, Nagios, IRIS) to detect and resolve network issues.
- Identify and escalate last-mile and upstream provider issues, ensuring follow-through until resolved.
- Prepare customer-facing network diagrams and manage IP allocations using IPAM.
- Maintain accurate documentation for all customer deployments and configurations.
- Offer after-hours support as part of a rotating standby schedule.
- Understand ECN’s core network topology and product suite, and contribute to deployments and ongoing support.
- Participate in a 24x7 call-out rota and be available for scheduled overtime during weekends and public holidays.
Minimum requirements
- Diploma or equivalent qualification in Information Technology
- Cisco CCNA certification (required)
- MikroTik MTCNA certification (required)
- Sophos Certification (advantageous)
- SIP School Certification (advantageous)
- Knowledge/experience with PortaOne and Asterisk (advantageous)
Experience & Skills:
- 2 years of hands-on experience in networking and VoIP support.
- 12–18 months in a technical support role involving networking and SIP.
- Solid knowledge of routing and switching protocols (Cisco, MikroTik, Sophos, Patton VoIP gateways).
- Strong troubleshooting abilities with network and VoIP technologies.
- Deep understanding of ISP services, including internet provisioning and access.
- Proficiency in diagnosing network and service issues using monitoring and performance tools (e.g., MRTG, Nagios, TMS, CMS, Wireshark).
- Ability to analyse and interpret SIP data and system metrics.
- High attention to detail, with a strong problem-solving mindset.
- Comfortable working under pressure and as part of a fast-paced team.
